Swashbuckler Plus Costume

Be a strapping young sea dog when you strap on every single part of this Plus Size Pirate Costume.  Start off with a white long sleeved polo shirt.  The edges are ruggedly cut in a zig zag pattern to give off the “I’m a daring adventurer slash hard worker” vibe.  This piece is connected to a burgundy tunic sort of top that has a fat line of shimmering yellow gold fabric with intricate details on it running smack down the middle.  As it the design was not enough, its lined in a darker shade of gold and has matching buttons slightly bigger than a quarter running down each side.

To add to the whole look, swing the chest strap over your torso and buckle up.  This is made from dark brown faux leather that is styled in a way to look worn out even though it is brand new.  It clasps together with a bronze buckle that matches the buttons on the top.  What also matches are the wrist straps made of the same faux leather material but instead of having buckles to fasten them, they have leather laces that you tie up.

To tie the whole Swashbuckler Plus Costume together, wrap the bright red waist sash around and strap on the brown belt right over it.  Top it all off with the matching bandana made of the exact same material used for the waist sash.

Swashbuckler background

However, no matter how convincing your costume may look, the best way to totally nail your “character” is to know something about him.  So here is a quick background on swashbucklers.

This term came out sometime in the 1950s but did not refer to the dashing pirate adventurers you think of today.  Back then, a swashbuckler meant some bully who made a ton of noise to compensate for his poor swordsmanship.  That is actually where the term even comes from.  Swash refers to the sound made when you bang or clang something together while buckler actually means shield.  Put those two together and you have a whole lot of noise.

It was only fairly recently when this term took a turn for the better as swashbucklers were portrayed as the heroes in a number of pirate flicks today.

So be the latter rather than the former with this Swashbuckler Plus Costume and be that dashing and debonair pirate that all the girls fall for in the end.
